A superb story of an outstanding explorer told by a master story teller of the sea. It is to Flinders that we owe for the word Australia and due to the vagaries of early the hazards of travelling by ship in that era a life that ended all to soon.Mundle is a master of his craft and my only fear is that he will run out of great characters of Australian maritime history to write about.

We Australians know about Flinders, right? He circumnavigated Australia and identified it as a continent - right? But I found there was much more to learn about this navigator than we learnt at school. As a seaman of renown himself, the author expertly takes us along on Flinders' voyages, highlighting his skill in a way that every reader will enjoy. A great read for Australian history lovers .. ....and even those who don't think they are!

Well written story of the mapping by Flinders of the Australian continent. An easy to read book and worth reading to anyone interested in early Australian History and of the challenges of sailing. The logistics of doing business in the late 18th century were truly amazing. Flinder's hand sketched maps are so close to what we know them to be today. The book does an excellent job of explaining how sailors looked after their boats and crew in great detail.

A bit tedious, but good history. Not inexpensive.

Well researched and written. An easy read which covers the subject well and gives an insight into many of the geographical areas and names of places that we know so well. It also portrays the extreme difficilties encountered by our early explorers and the difficulty in maritime navigation that we now take for granted with modern maps and technology
